Fremington folk invited to have their say on new ideas for the Village Green.

THE people of Fremington are being invited to have their say on improvement plans for the village green.

Fremington Community Group has raised £10,000 for the proposed enhancement of the green next to Han Court in the village.

It is hoped to use the money to add more features to the green to encourage more people to use it, as well as improve the access and make it more inviting.

Instead of the current square patch of grass, the idea is to install a proper arched entrance to the green, with a circular grassed area surrounded by planted flowers, seating and pathways.

The group also hopes to open up the rear of the green to allow it to flow into the nature reserve behind, as well as obtain official Village Green status to protect it for future generations.

People are urged to go along to a public consultation at St Peters Church Hall in Fremington on Sunday between 2-4pm to view the draft plans drawn up by committee member and horticulturist, Ian Smith, as well as have their say and suggest their own ideas.

These will be used to create a final plan that will be presented to the Parish Council.

“We hope to make it a more usable space for use for everyone in our community, from the very youngest to the very oldest. We want to see it used, enjoyed and admired,” said Paul McWhinnie of the community group.

“We hope to make this a real community project and to involve volunteers and local trades people who we hope may donate their time, skills and perhaps some materials for the project. If you can help in anyway please attend our consultation and let us know.”

The former petrol station site was secured for the village after a generous benefactor left money to buy the land and turn it into a green, on the condition it should never be built on.
