Dan Bolton, 20, named overall winner of the Bridport Banger Contest at Melplash Show

A Colyton butcher’s sausages proved a sizzling success with judges at Melplash Show.

Dan Bolton’s traditional and speciality varieties were both voted class winners in the Bridport Banger Contest.

And he went on to be named the show’s overall sausage-making champion.

Dan, aged 20, works for his Uncle Anton Bolton who manages the butchers at both Colyton and Lyme Regis.

His traditional ‘banger’ was made with a secret recipe that the firm has been using for many years.

His speciality sausage was a new variety created using pork and black pudding.

Dan, a former Axe Valley Academy student, said he was delighted to take the top award at the show.

Now he is going for the ‘champion of champions’ title at the up-coming national sausage making contest in London.

* Both his award winning bangers are on sale from the firm’s two shops.
