Winners receive their cups at the harvest supper after another successful year

Axminster Young Farmers’ Club celebrated another fun-filled year at its harvest supper in The Guildhall.

This guest speakers were Nick Creasy who is the organisation’s manager for Devon YFC and Angela Pavey, one of the club’s advisory members.

The current chairman, Mark Warren, also spoke, summarising the past 12 months.

During the year the club raised almost £7,000 for five different charities all of which have helped past members.

The club has also taken part in various competitions in the year including sports, a livestock show and sale, performing arts, speaking competitions and Devon County and Honiton shows within the young farmers’ tents.

Members have had a busy time attending various social events across the south west, enabling them to meet lots of other people all of a similar age.

The club has also organised various events in the year including four discos, two bingos and a quiz.

At the supper cups were presented to the following winners:

Overall member - Jack Chapple and Alice Gay.

Members’ member - Alice Gay.

Best international member - Matthew Fitzgerald.

Senior boy - Mark Warren.

Senior girl - Emily Gay.

Junior boy - Scott Pavey.

Junior girl - Harriet Burrough.

Drama boy - Gavin Herrod and Jack Chapple.

Drama girl - Chloe Burrough.

Sports boy - Charlie Trivett and Laurence Gay.

Sports girl - Chloe Burrough.

Stockjudging Cup - Jon Turner.

Public Speaking Cup - Jack Chapple and Chloe Burrough.

Chairman’s Cup - Jack Chapple and Alice Gay.

New Members’ Cup - Chris Grabham.

Club Leaders Cup - Liam Mclean.

The next event for the club will be its new members’ evening on Monday, October 16, at the Ridgeway, Smallridge, at 8pm. Everyone, aged 10 to 26, is welcome to go along and hear about what members get up to.

Said member Alice Gay: “Young Farmers is a brilliant way to meet new people, learn new skills and you do not need to be a farmer to be a young farmer!
